10 Common Social Recruiting Internet Sourcing Myths BUSTED - Workology

10 Common Social Recruiting Internet Sourcing Myths BUSTED - Workology Busted! Common Social Recruiting and Internet Sourcing Myths Busted! Common Social Recruiting and Internet Sourcing Myths As a former dark horse of the recruiting world (I think were past those days though, right?), social recruiting  and internet sourcing have had plenty of time to accumulate some big, big, myths. Myths some staffing leaders and recruiting managers have held onto because, well, its just kind of hard to keep up to date on whats really going on with social recruiting and sourcing. In my experience these myths create a life of their own and are furthered due to lack of recent knowledge, experience, and education.  Often times these same leaders who perpetuate these myths forget that with the Internet we are in the business of finding and driving people.  And that these people and candidates we are actively sourcing and recruiting dont use the online and resources and tools in the same way that they are accustomed.  My candidates arent on social media.  Rubbish. Facebook has 1 billion active users, according to Yahoo! Finance. TechCrunch reports Twitter has 170 million active users, and Google+ has 100 million. Youre telling me your candidates arent using any of those social networks? Or Pinterest? Or LinkedIn? Or YouTube? Or Quora? Or Meetup? Or GitHub? I could keep going but i’ll save it for another post. Social media is awesome! Join every network right now!  Just because I can name a lot of social networks, doesnt mean I should set up a profile on all of them. By all means, research other social networks. Set up a company profile or page and give em the old college try. But you may find that some of them arent really worth your time. Thats alright! The best recruiters use data to identify which sourcing activities yield the best results if a social network isnt helping you out, cut it loose. Google+ is dumb. If you went through that new social network evaluation I just linked you to and you think its dumb, alright, I believe you. But dont discount the tremendous SEO value in Google+. Posts from Google+ are being indexed in the SERPs, and authors Google+ profiles are showing up next to those results and improving  click through  rates on listings. Even if youre not seeing a lot of engagement on Google+, you might see a bump in your organic search rankings for your jobs as a result of your activity there. Pinterest is only for B2C organizations and you can’t recruit on it anyway.  It is totally awesome for B2C recruiters, to be sure. But usually when someone says a channel is only for B2C, the B2B recruiter in me takes that as a challenge to prove its not so. You can check out a blog post by Blogging4jobs own Jessica Miller-Merrell on How to Recruit on Pinterest. I should only try to get fans and followers that will become candidates.  Quality is important, yes, but dont underestimate the power of a large social reach. Remember some of these points next time you bemoan acquiring a fan or follower that would not be a fit for your current openings remember: More fans and followers means youre gaining access to their fans and followers. If theyre an influencer, their clout transfers to you by association. When they share your jobs, your SEO improves. They may still refer candidates your way. If my friends and family Like every update, my social presence will rock.  You cant just have your mom and uncle Like every job post you put up on Facebook. The EdgeRank algorithm is a tad bit more sophisticated than that. You need a variety of people interacting with your content both to grow your reach, and to show up in users news feeds! I have to respond to candidates immediately, especially on social media.  Theres no doubt a speedy response is appreciated, but it isnt always required. People understand that youre running a business. There are other things going on. If you get back in a timely manner, but not in mere seconds, its alright. Do NOT get personal.  The jobs you publish in social media should always keep your target audience in mind but that doesnt mean you cant also publish content that shows your brands personality. Or, frankly, even your hiring managers personality. There are people behind your company and its jobs; dont be afraid to show that with your own special brand of humor, pictures of people that work at your company, and links to news content that you find particularly entertaining even if its not directly related to your industry. Hashtags are not wicked important.  You know those tweets that look like this? XYZ is hiring #jobs #marketing that talks about #mobile #ATS  The point of Twitter hashtags is that they join together common conversation threads. So while its nice to have a hashtag for an event, like a webinar or a trade show, dont lose your mind if it doesnt become a trending topic. Its not necessarily going to blow your hiring goal out of the water if it does think of hashtags as a way to be more user-friendly for those following the hashtag, not a way to make all your candidate sourcing dreams come true. Social Recruiting is only for millennials.  Thats not really an accurate picture of social media users these days. If you think the only people using social media are millennials and theyre just not part of your target candidates think again. 40% of Facebooks active users are over age 35. 52% of 55-64 year old internet users have joined a social network. 93% of U.S. adult internet users are on Facebook. Social Recruiting is free.  Its free to join, but its still a resource investment. Yes, its often cheaper 45% of recruiting leadership cite social media has a below average cost per hire, surpassed only by candidates generated from referrals. But just like any other recruiting channel, youll have to invest some resources behind social recruiting and to really make it take off, its only natural youll have to up that investment (that investment by the way is in people who ‘get it’ and can do it the right way for you). What other common social recruiting and hiring myths did I miss?  What type of resistance have you encountered when talking abou the benefits of internet recruiting and sourcing?  Feel free to share your favorites below.

Desperate People Dont Get New Jobs, Try This Approach Instead

Urgent People Dont Get New Jobs, Try This Approach Instead Much the same as in the realm of dating, looking frantic won't go anyplace in your pursuit of employment. At the point when somebody sees the flicker of urgency in your eye, they question your thought processes and you lose validity in a moment. Of course, there is a relationship of number of requests for employment and number of meetings you land yet imagine a scenario in which you could get the proportion down to one meeting for every application. Or on the other hand surprisingly better, what about getting interviews without applying? Spraynpray applications The outdated method of going after positions isn't generally working in the present economy. Managers are immersed with resumes from cheerful jobseekers, here and there getting many candidates for one single position. Bosses likewise will in general get a lot of open applications that are not identified with a specific occupations. This shows the candidate is on the urgent side and simply needs the businesses brand on their resume. Enrollment specialists continually have adverts out for different situations in their field. These adverts will render various applications every day, fundamentally from applicants sticking to the 'shower and ask' technique. Anybody that sends a similar resume and introductory letter email to 20 situations in a single day should be delegated edgy and scouts hurry to the slopes when they see it. Just going after any position that is out there and in any event, for occupations that arent out there won't be the route forward. Everything it does is putting the frantic stamp on your resume and yourself. Somebody advised me to… The common master counsel in an intense market is call up the selection representative as well as boss and ensure they read your resume and put you at the highest point of the heap. These days, this won't make you stick out and on the off chance that anything you will just seem to be frantic and discover your resume goes either to the base of the heap or in the garbage can. A recruiting supervisor needs eagerness from another worker, not edginess. Yet, shouldn't I attempt all way to find another line of work? Obviously you should take a stab at everything, except you just get one possibility with each organization and you need to make the most of it. Rather than you applying, envision being scouted or even reached direct by a recruiting chief. This would place you in an a lot more grounded haggling position which you can use from, particularly if find a new line of work offer. The most effective method to abstain from looking frantic Have exclusive expectations and just consent to take a gander at employments that you truly need. A questioner can recognize a go getter jobseeker a mile away. By just applying for the correct jobs for you, you will spare time and exertion for the ones that truly tally. Besides, selection representatives and managers will regard your trustworthiness and recall you for the following open door they have that is increasingly pertinent to your inclinations. Take the necessary steps for the selection representative or boss to get in touch with you rather than the other way around. There are various ways you can take a shot at your branding, begin getting dynamic on the web, give talks in your field and raise your profile. Businesses and enrollment specialists will be all over you like ducks on a June bug. Activity plan Adopt a drawn out strategy to your vocation and work on your own image today. Begin composing blog entries about your industry, focusing in on a couple of organizations with the assistance of person to person communication, get dynamic in online gatherings and selection representatives, head up industry occasions, the rundown continues endlessly… End The point I am making is that you need to turn the table and be distinctive to different jobseekers. You would prefer not to be pushy, in the event that anything you ought to be driven into a meeting. Much the same as the dating game, the difficult to-gets appear to get heaps of offers and can single out. Abstain from looking urgent, save your exclusive requirements and nobility when searching for the following position and I am persuaded you will admission like nothing anyone's ever seen. How to Be Confident During Your Next Job Interview

How to Be Confident During Your Next Job Interview Picture this: you have been sending resumes to online job postings, meeting with networking connections to tell them you on the job hunt and you have finally landed an interview! In fact, it’s at a company that you would LOVE to work for and the job is perfectly suited for you. Then, panic sets in because you haven’t been on an interview for a LONG time and you get nervousâ€"really nervous. Read through these tips below for some advice on how to appear confident during your upcoming interview. Tip #1 â€" Do your homework. Research the company, its products, services, staff members, and mission statement. Do NOT show up to the interview and not know anything about the organization. In fact, a commonly asked interview question concerns you telling THEM what you know about their company. Don’t disappoint. And, with how easy it is to research a company on the Internet, you really have no excuse for not doing this easy step. Tip #2 â€" Practice interview questions. Google a list of commonly-asked interview questions and think about how you would answer them. Conduct a mock interview with a trusted colleague or friend. (Contact me today for mock interview services) And, if you do this on your own, say your responses out-loud. Better yet, turn the camera on yourself and SEE how you respond to these questions. Often, how we think we sound is actually different than how it comes across to someone else. Tip #3 â€" Don’t be squirmy. This may sound completely strange; however, when people get nervous, they fidget, play with their hair, dart their eyes in all directions, and generally squirm in their chairs. I tend to talk with my hands A LOT and probably do that even more when I’m nervous. To calm my nerves, I always bring a pen and a portfolio or paper with me. This grounds me and allows my hands to rest on something that doesn’t cause a distraction (just don’t play click-click-click with your pen). Tip #4 â€" Breathe. Breathing comes naturally to all of us, right? Not true. When people are nervous, they tend to take short breaths and find themselves breathing shallowly. Take a few deep breaths upon arrival to your interview, take another deep breath before the first question, and be conscious of your breathing during the interview. Tip #5 â€" Don’t be hard on yourself. Think positively and use every single interview as a learning experience. Ifâ€"during the interviewâ€"you feel like you gave a less-than-stellar answer, don’t worry about it. You are probably dwelling on it more than the interviewers even noticed. And, even if this job opportunity doesn’t work out for you, you have gained even more experience as an interviewee and can learn from each one of them. Be certain that you are the CORRECT person for the job and explain how the company can be positioned better with YOU as a member of the team. Interviews can be nerve-wracking. And, as I always tell my clients, if you aren’t nervous for an interview, I would almost think you weren’t really that interested. A little bit of nervousness can harness power within you and actually be a good thing â€" use that to your advantage.
